Bellingham residents celebrate Christmas with new trees in their ward

Thanks to Phoenix Housing association and government funding, the Bellingham community has welcomed 40 new street trees. Athelnay primary welcomed the addition of 18 new trees, and Elfrida primary an orchard of 10 new fruit trees, contributing to a healthier and more vibrant environment for students and residents. A further 12 street trees enhance the storefronts along Randlesdown Road, including two trees behind the Fellowship Inn, the community pub near Bellingham station.

In the spirit of the season, a festive touch has been added to Bellingham Green with the planting of a Christmas tree. This was celebrated on Monday 4th December when local residents, school children and councillors gathered on the green for the annual carol singing event and to welcome the new Christmas tree.

The tree planting is part of Street Trees for Living's drive to create greener hubs near vital community locations on busy routes outside shops, surgeries, schools, and transport links.

The successful planting of 40 trees in Bellingham ward was made possible through the collaboration with Phoenix Community Housing and local schools. The partnership underscores the community-driven approach at the heart of Street Trees for Living's mission to foster a greener, healthier, and more resilient environment for all Lewisham residents.
